David King has become the 10th player in Premier Cricket History to surpass the 10,000 run barrier, the second Ringwood player to do so, the first solely at Ringwood. Since making his debt as a 16yo in 2006/7, David has passed the milestones in his 282nd match at the highest level in Victorian Cricket.
The current Ringwood CC Captain has further enhanced his already impressive career CV in achieving the mammoth total in what will go down as one of the finest careers in the competitions history. Ryder Medallist, 3 time Premiership Player, 6 time Premier Team of the Year, 4 time Club Champion, 4 time 1st XI Batting Award winner, 1st XI Bowling Award winner, CV Future Star award winner and Victorian representative on the back of his 10,000 runs, 260 wickets and 95 catches, and he is not done yet.
The runs milestone was underpinned by his 19 Premier centuries, his 171 no against the Monash Tigers the highest of these during the 2011/12 season. Not surprisingly, three of these hundreds were made in Finals matches showing his willingness to embrace the big occasions. His 21 1st X1 Finals appearances (5 in Grand Finals) also a Ringwood record and goes to highlight his importance to the Clubs History given we have only participated in 23 Finals matches in our first 49 years.
As a member of the much heralded King family in Ringwood history, he has established himself as the pre-eminent contributor of the seven members of his family tree to have donned the Blue Cap in 1st Xi Cricket. He has gone about his work with a quiet confidence and a wonderful humility making him a respected adversary and treasured teammate amongst his peers. Now in his fifth season as Club Captain, he has established himself as a brilliant role model to those that take the field with him each weekend as well as those younger Rams in the lower XI’s.
We at Ringwood salute his iconic achievement in the history of the competition, and look forward to taking great pleasure as he further scales the steps of Premier Cricket’s highest run scorers, and looks to add to his Premiership tally.
